“Glamour is external and deliberate.” Hollywood understood this quite early and set out to exploit this phenomenon. (Note: but as the papparrazi ascended on Hollywood cracks started to appear in its highly polished façade). Anyhow, marketing forces too picked up on this shill and so today any girl can be glamorous by creating and controlling her own personal image.
Glamour grew out of the human need to stun and witches could do just that. The new witch is über feminine and sensual and has a stunning effect. Red nails and red lipstick with the highest heels, in dresses that cling to every curve while showing some skin – cleavage, legs and shoulders. Hair coiffed to a perfection and eyes that are dramatically coated with sweeps of mascara affecting stares that stupefy. And the voice… ever so sultry. Glamour is a tool that exploits sex to craft a tantalizing appearance that transcends the ordinary.
Virginia Postre said it well “Glamour doesn’t just happen, people don’t wake up in the morning glamorous”. Cosmetic company also got it and went to lengths to convince all womankind that glamour is their second nature but only if they shell out shit loads of bling on their products. An easy target in a culture where women want to glitter and shimmer so they can be desired. Now -illions of incandescent blondes and -illions of bronze Venuses are going to untold lengths attempting for a luxurious magnetism. All want to elevate themselves from the ordinary and especially want the spectator to believe that associating with them will result into a sensual, emotional and magical experience. But isn’t glamour singularly about appearance and aspiration…
